Speaking at NTLF2021, Gurnani said Indian consumers had embraced digital technology during the pandemic, and that it is now up to Indian companies to make sure that they are ahead digitally. With half a billion Internet subscribers, and among the fastest growing digital consumer markets, India will leapfrog others thanks to technology, he said.
For companies to succeed, it is important to focus on human experience, said Gurnani. “Whatever technology I use, if I don’t focus on design, style and user interfaces, I am not making it easy for adoption,” said Gurnani.
The other important aspects are looking at the data being created and cybersecurity. He said companies like Tesla Inc. would come to India as they simply couldn’t ignore the 1.3 billion people here.
Finally, there is a need to put in a framework to create skilled workers, he said, adding: “We need to anticipate the new jobs of the future and create a model where we become a supplier to the world.”
Speaking separately, Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat said it is very important for leaders to give directions to their staff. He said Capgemini, like the rest of the industry, moved nearly 97% of its workforce to remote working in 72 hours after the lockdown.
“We set up a crisis cell globally for all countries to connect to share best practices and improve on every step on every process,” Ezzat said. The question among leaders was will people work sitting from home, he said. “But it continued to work week after week.”
